Is running a portable Ac all day hazardous?

If you use the AC in a room without any windows that open up to the outdoors, the air conditioner would play a key role in keeping the indoor air clean. In such cases, it is often necessary to leave portable ACs running for extremely long periods of time. You might be wondering if it is safe to leave a portable AC running all day. Well, it usually wouldn’t cause a fire or other major hazards. Can you run a portable AC all day?

There is no limit to how long you can leave a portable AC running. You may run it all day in your office to maintain a healthy air quality or all night in your bedroom to enjoy a comfortable temperature. However, here are a few problems that could crop up: 

• Like in case of any other electronic appliance, constant usage leads to wear and tear. This means that the internal parts would undergo excessive strain and may become malfunctional. Rampant overuse can greatly reduce an air conditioner’s lifespan. 
• Running an air conditioner all day isn’t very economical either. No matter how energy efficient the machine is, the costs would keep stacking up. Hence, leaving a portable air conditioner running all day can be quite expensive in terms of energy bills. So, for an office turn unit off at the end of the day and turn back on in the morning (the cooling function is operating within 5 minutes), unless it’s within a Server or Data Room, you may need 24 hours running in the instance.
• The more you use an air conditioner, the more dirt would accumulate in the filters. How to deal with the water discharge?

Unless your portable air conditioner has an evaporative technology to get rid of condensation (or maybe through an additional condensate pump installed as an option to your hire), the water would accumulate in the condensation tank. It is necessary to empty this tank every time it fills up, (for our 4.5kW 15SF Range at extreme humidity the tank can fill every 6 hours and require emptying). Now, manually emptying the tank while running the AC all day can be a hard task, besides the fact that one may forget it. Our portable AC units all have an automatic turn off function when tank is full, so you won’t have water leaking. You may remedy this by attaching a drain hose to the tank and draining away the water or you can ask our Airpower Equipment Setup Specialist to install a condensate pump, if you have an available drainage spot close by for the water removal via a condensate tubing, this can be installed for an additional fee and has a small weekly hire change for the pump.
